How to Prepare for the 2024 Compulsory Insurance Limit Increase as an Employee

The income threshold which determines an employee's eligibility to be privately insured will increase to €69,300 (gross) in 2024. The changes could affect you as both a publicly or privately insured in Germany.

➢ If you’re privately insured and your current salary does not meet the threshold, you'll be required to switch to the public system as of January.

➢ If you're publicly insured and earn above the threshold, there's an exciting opportunity for you to enter the private scheme, which can be appealing if you don’t have pre-existing conditions or dependents, and are looking to potentially lower your health insurance premiums.
